Related and complementary products come from Shopify's product recommendations, not from the theme. Related products are similar to the one on the page, and complementary products go well with it. Checkmate asks Shopify for them as the visitor scrolls near them, and when Shopify has none for a product, the block or section hides completely, heading included. They appear in these places:
The Related products and Complementary products blocks in the Product information section. On the default product page, the related products have the heading "You may also like". The complementary products have the heading "Often bought with" in the Checkmate style, "Pairs well with" in Lair and "Spoon it with" in Fang.
The Featured collection and Card rail sections, with Source set to Related to the product or Bought with the product.
Shopify has no complementary products until you choose them yourself in the Search & Discovery app. You can recognize this cause when the related products show on a product page and the complementary products don't.

The section is on a page that isn't a product page

Rule out the cache and the wrong theme
If your other recent changes don't show on your store either, start with My changes don't show on my store. Which products Shopify recommends is set in your Shopify admin and the Search & Discovery app, not in the theme. What the theme controls and what Shopify controls explains the difference.
No complementary products are set up
Shopify has no complementary products until you choose them yourself in the Search & Discovery app. You can recognize this cause when the related products show on a product page and the complementary products don't.
In the Search & Discovery app, open the product's recommendations and add the products that go with it, as described in Shopify's guide to product recommendations. Recommend other products on the product page shows the whole set-up.
