The Animations settings decide how page content moves into view and whether a chapter indicator shows the name of the part of the page a visitor is reading. To find them, open the theme editor. In the editor sidebar, click Theme settings, then select Animations. Motion that belongs to one section, such as Dark moment and Rise on scroll, is set in that section, as Section motion settings describes.
The group holds two settings, Entrance animation and Chapter indicator.
Entrance animation
When a page opens, the content on the first screen rises into place in order and the header fades in. Content further down the page animates in as the visitor scrolls to it, the first time it comes into view. Sections in the header and footer do not animate in.
Choice
What visitors see
Subtle
Text, cards and photos fade in while rising a short distance. Photos settle from slightly zoomed in. Headings fade up word by word. The Lair style uses it.
Expressive
Content rises further. Cards tip slightly and grow into place, photos open from a smaller frame, and small pictures, such as round portraits, pop in with a little bounce. Headings slide up word by word from below their line. The Checkmate and Fang styles use it.
Off
Every page shows its content at once, with no movement.
With Off, a few section effects that depend on this setting stop too:
The Hero heading shows at once, even with Animate heading on load on.
The dots in a Hotspots section show without popping in.
The cards in a Stacking cards section show without their reveal.
Effects tied to scrolling, such as Scroll text, Orbit and the Video scroll effects, still play. Each of those has its own setting in its section.
Reduced motion
Visitors whose phone or computer is set to reduce motion see no entrance animation, whatever you choose. The page opens with all its content in place, and the bottom edge fade from Effects settings does not show. There is no setting that turns this off, because it follows the visitor's own device.
Chapter indicator
Setting
What it does
Chapter indicator
Shows a small label in the bottom left corner of the screen with the number and name of the chapter on screen, such as "02 Our coffee", and a thin line along the top of the screen that fills as the visitor scrolls down the page. On in all three styles.
A chapter is a part of the page that starts at a section with a Chapter title and runs until the next section with one. The label changes as the visitor scrolls from one chapter into the next. When the visitor points at the label or moves to it with the keyboard, a list of every chapter on the page opens above it, and clicking a chapter scrolls to it.
The indicator shows only:
On pages with at least two sections that have a Chapter title.
On screens 1,000 px wide or wider.
Once the first section of the page has scrolled out of the lower half of the screen. It hides again when the footer comes into view.
