Every page in a Checkmate store is built in the theme editor from three layers. A template decides which sections a kind of page has. Sections are the full-width parts of the page, stacked from top to bottom. Blocks are the pieces inside a section, such as a heading, a button or a photo. The header, the footer and the pop-up parts of the store sit in three section groups that every page shares.

Templates
Each kind of page has its own template: the home page, product pages, collection pages, the cart, blog posts, pages and so on. You switch templates at the top of the editor, for example to Products, then Default product. A change to the default product template shows on every product that uses it.
Some kinds of page have a second template for a different layout. You assign it to one product, collection or page in your Shopify admin.

Product
Not a page. It is the content of the quick view popup on product cards.
The quick-view template sets what the quick view popup shows for every product, whatever template the product uses. It appears in the product's template list in your Shopify admin, but a product assigned to it shows the popup's layout as a full page. Leave it unassigned. A product page looks like a popup covers the fix. To make a template of your own, see Use a different layout for some products and Create a page with its own layout.
Header, Footer and Overlays groups
Three section groups appear in the editor sidebar on every template, and what you change in them shows on every page.

Overlays
Offcanvas drawer, which is the side menu, Popup, Cart, Wishlist, Share
Over the page, once a customer opens one or the popup opens on its own
The sections in Overlays are panels that open over the page: the side menu, the popup, the cart drawer, the wishlist and the share dialog. The section named Cart here is the cart drawer. Choosing between the drawer and a cart page is in the Cart group of Theme settings, as Cart settings describes. These sections can only live in this group. When you select one in the editor, it opens in the preview so you can see it. The Fang style starts without the Announcement bar and Features, as Theme styles shows.
Announcement bar, Header and Mobile bottom navigation can only go in the Header group. Hero, FAQ and most other sections can't go in the Header or Footer group. Features can go on a template or in the Footer group, and Marquee on a template or in either group.
Sections
A section is one full-width part of a page, such as a hero, a product list or a list of questions. To add one, click Add section in a template or a group and select it from the list. Many sections come in several presets, which are the same section with different starting settings, such as the three Hero presets.
A few sections belong to one kind of page. The Product information section, with the photos, price and the button to buy, works only on product templates. The Collection section works only on collection templates, and the Collections grid section only on the page that lists all your collections.
A block is one piece inside a section. Checkmate has two kinds.
A section's own blocks exist only inside that section. The Variant option block in Product information, the Mega menu block in Header and the Quick discount block in Cart are examples. Each one is described in its section's article, such as the Product information section.
Theme blocks work in more than one section. These sections accept every theme block: Section, Card rail, Contact form, Orbit, Subscription, Video, Offcanvas drawer and Share. Popup accepts a few of them, such as Text, Image, Button and Newsletter form. Theme blocks include Text, Button, Image, Video, Newsletter form, Menu, Social links and more, each with its own article under Blocks. The Section section is an empty frame made for them, as the Section section explains.
Theme blocks can hold other blocks.
The Group block lines up the blocks inside it in a column or a row. The Add block list shows it twice, as Column and Row.
The Columns block places the blocks inside it in columns, up to six in a row.
The Details block holds Detail blocks, each a small label over a value, such as an email address or opening hours.
A Group can sit inside a Columns block, and a Columns block inside a Group, so one Section can hold a full layout of its own.
App blocks
An app you install can add its own block, such as product reviews or a signup form. These sections accept app blocks: Section, Product information, Featured product, Contact form, Orbit, Popup, Subscription, Video and Offcanvas drawer. Add an app to your store shows how to place one, and An app doesn't show on my store helps when it does not appear.

Most sections share the same groups of settings for spacing, background and motion. Section layout settings, Section background settings and Section motion settings describe them once. A section with nothing to show, such as a Featured collection with no collection, shows a note in the editor and stays hidden on your store, as A section shows in the editor but not on my store explains. Choose a section for your page says what each section is for.
