Blog posts section

The Blog posts section shows cards for posts from one of your blogs, with a heading and a button that opens the blog. To add one, click Add section in the editor and select Blog posts. It works on any page, and Checkmate's blog post page already has one under each post, showing related posts in a carousel with the heading "Read next".

In its default style, the newest post shows as a large card with its photo above the title, and the next posts are listed beside it as small rows.

If the section has no posts to show, it does not appear on your store. In the editor, it shows a short message in its place, such as "Select a blog to show its posts."

What it does

Source

Blog shows the newest posts from the blog you choose under Blog. Related posts shows other posts from the blog of the post being read, those that share a tag with it first. It works only on a blog post page and hides everywhere else. Selected posts shows the posts you pick under Posts, in the order you pick them.

Style

Featured post and list shows the newest post as a large card, and the next posts as small rows beside it, each with a square photo, the title and the date. On screens narrower than 1,000 px, the rows go under the large card. Featured post and grid shows the newest post as a wide card across the top, with its photo beside the text, and the next posts in a grid under it. Grid shows every post as the same card, photo above the title. Carousel shows the cards in a row that customers scroll sideways, with arrows at the end of the heading. List shows each post as a full-width row with the title, the photo, then the date, the short description and a "Read article" link. Compact list shows every post as a small row with a square photo, the title and the date.

Columns

How many cards sit side by side, from 2 to 4. The default is 3. On narrower screens, the grid shows fewer columns so cards do not get too small. Shows with Grid and Featured post and grid.

Columns

How many small rows sit side by side, from 1 to 4. The default is 2. Shows with Compact list.

Maximum posts

How many posts the section shows, from 1 to 12, the large first post included. The default is 6. Hidden with Selected posts, which shows every post you pick.

Button label and Link

The button at the end of the heading. It opens Link, or the blog's page when Link is empty. With a Tag filter, it opens the blog's page for that tag. With Selected posts on a page that is not a blog page, the button shows only when you choose a Blog or enter a Link. Clear the label to hide the button. Link shows only when the label has text.

Show tag filter

Shows a row of the blog's tags under the heading, starting with "All". Clicking a tag opens the blog's page for that tag. Shows when Source is Blog and Style is not Carousel. The row appears only when the blog's posts have tags.

Show image

Shows each post's featured image. A post without one keeps an empty frame, so the cards stay the same shape.

Show tags

Shows the post's tags above its title. Hidden with Compact list.

Show post details

Shows the date, the reading time and the author under the title. Compact list and the small rows of Featured post and list show the date only.

Show short description

Shows the start of the post under the title. Hidden with Compact list.

Short description length

How many words of the post show, from 10 to 60. The default is 24. Shows when Show short description is on.

Image ratio

The shape of the photo on cards with the photo above the title. Landscape is wide (16:9), Square is square, and Portrait is tall (4:5). The wide card of Featured post and grid and the small rows keep their own shapes. Shows when Show image is on and Style is not List or Compact list.

With Related posts, no post is shown large, so Featured post and list and Featured post and grid show the posts without a large first card.
