Search section

The Search section is the search results page, which opens when a customer searches your store and presses Enter. It comes with the search template and can't be added to other pages. To change it, select the search template at the top of the editor. What shows in the search box while a customer types is set in Search settings instead.

The page opens with the heading Search Results, a search box holding the customer's words, and a line such as 12 results found for coffee. Under it, the results come in three groups, each with its own heading:

  • Products, as product cards in a grid, with filters and sorting above them.

  • Articles, your blog posts, as rows with the post's photo, date and a short description.

  • Pages, as a list of links.

A group with no results is left out. When nothing matches, the page says No results found, followed by the customer's words. On a page with no results, the section's blocks fill the space, as the Blocks part below describes. When the customer's filters match no products, the page says No products match, with a Clear all button that removes the filters.

What it does

Results per page

How many results show before the page links, from 8 to 36. The default is 12. Products, articles and pages all count toward it.

Columns

How many product cards sit in a row on a large screen, from 2 to 4. A card is never narrower than 256 px, so smaller screens show fewer, and a phone shows one.

Enable filtering

Shows a filter button at the right end of the row with the Products heading. It opens a panel from the left side of the screen with the filters you set up in Shopify's Search & Discovery app. The filters apply to products. The button shows only when Shopify has filters for the results.

Enable sorting

Shows a sort menu at the right end of the row with the Products heading.

Product cards

These settings change the product cards in search results only: Card style, Show vendor, Show quick view button, Show add to cart button, One-click add to cart, Show short description, Image hover effect, Show score seal, Score seal metafield, Show product tag label, Product tag label prefix and Metrics. Product card settings in sections describes each one.

Blocks

The section's blocks show only when the page has no results: before a customer searches, and after a search that finds nothing. They offer the same shortcuts as the header's search panel. Click Add block in the section to add one. Each style's search page comes with a few tags and a row of bestsellers.

Quick search tag

A short link in a row under the search box, such as Candles. Clicking it opens the search results for its term.

Setting

What it does
