Checkmate animates content into place as it comes on screen. Headings, text, photos and cards fade in and rise a little when they scroll into view, a moment after the visitor reaches them. You can make the animation shorter or turn it off.
This is the most likely cause. Entrance animation in Theme settings > Animations has three choices:
Subtle moves each piece a short distance and fades headings in word by word. The Lair style starts with it.
Expressive moves each piece further, tilts cards a little, and brings each word of a heading up from below its line. The Checkmate and Fang styles start with it.
Off shows everything at once.
You can recognize this cause when content in the middle of a page appears only after it is a little way up from the bottom of the screen. The header and the footer never animate.
Under Entrance animation, select Subtle for a shorter animation, or Off for none.
Click Save.
Visitors who turned on reduced motion in their device's settings see no entrance animation, whatever you choose. Animation settings describes the other animation settings.
Sections are blank while the page loads
With an entrance animation on, every section after the first stays blank until the theme's scripts have loaded on the visitor's device, so the animation can start from the beginning. On a slow connection this can take a moment, and after 3 seconds the sections show anyway. You can recognize this cause when a page shows its first section and an empty area under it for a moment, most often on a phone.
Select Off under Entrance animation, as in the previous fix, to show every section at once.
The hero plays its opening animation
The Hero section has its own animation when the page opens: each word of the heading rises into place, and the photo behind it fades in once it has downloaded. A large photo on a slow connection appears later. You can recognize this cause when the hero's heading and photo appear a moment after the page opens. To show the hero at once, turn off Animate heading on load in the Hero section and click Save. Its opening plays only while Entrance animation is on.
A section grows into place
A section with Rise on scroll turned on starts smaller and grows to its full size as it comes on screen. You can recognize this cause when a whole section, with its background, grows as you scroll to it. To stop it, select the section in the editor, turn off Rise on scroll under Motion, and click Save. Section motion settings describes the setting.

Rule out the cache and the wrong theme
If your other recent changes don't show on your store either, start with My changes don't show on my store. Content added by an app, such as a reviews widget, loads at the app's own pace. What the theme controls and what Shopify controls explains the difference.
