A product carousel in the cart suggests more products while customers review their order. It is a row of small product cards, each with a photo, the name, the price and an add button, that customers scroll sideways. The cart drawer and the cart page each have a Product carousel block for it, and both come with one already added.
The two carousels are set up separately:
Cart drawer
Cart page
Where it shows
Under the products in the drawer
Under the order summary, which sits to the right of the products on a computer and under them on smaller screens
Empty cart
Shows the products of a picked collection
Shows the products of a picked collection, as larger cards under the empty cart message
Each section takes only one Product carousel block.
Set up the carousel in the cart drawer
The cart drawer is the Cart section in the Overlays part of the editor sidebar, on every page. Cart drawer section describes its other settings.
In the editor sidebar, under Overlays, click Product carousel in the Cart section. If there is none, click Add block in the Cart section and select Product carousel. The cart drawer opens in the preview.
Optional. In Heading, enter the line over the products. It reads "You may also like" until you change it.
In Collection, select a collection, or leave it empty to show products related to the cart.
In Maximum products, choose how many products the carousel shows, from 2 to 10. The default is 6.
In the sidebar, click Product carousel in the Cart section. If there is none, click Add block in the Cart section and select Product carousel.
Set Heading, Collection and Maximum products the same way as in the drawer.
Click Save.
How the products are chosen
With a collection, the carousel shows that collection's products in the collection's own order, and leaves out products already in the cart.
With no collection, the carousel shows products that Shopify finds related to the first product in the cart, and leaves out products already in the cart. When Shopify finds none, the carousel doesn't show. In an empty cart, a carousel with no collection doesn't show. Related or complementary products don't show covers the common causes.
As installed, the cart page carousel picks the collection with the handle bestsellers in every style. The drawer carousel picks bestsellers in the Checkmate style, finishing-touches in Lair and snacks in Fang. If your store has no collection with that handle, the carousel shows related products.
List collections in an empty cart drawer
When the cart is empty, the drawer can list links to your main collections under its empty-cart message.
In Popular collections, select up to 12 collections. The setting is in the Free shipping progress part of the list.
Click Save.
The links show under the heading "Popular collections". To change the heading, enter your own in Popular collections heading in the Cart section under Overlays. The cart page doesn't show these links.
