An app doesn't show on my store

An app shows on your store in one of two ways. An app embed adds something to every page, such as a chat button, and you turn it on once. An app block is a widget you place in a section yourself, such as product reviews. Installing an app doesn't always turn on its embed or place its block, and each theme keeps its own app embeds and blocks.

Rule out the cache and the wrong theme

If your other recent changes don't show on your store either, start with My changes don't show on my store. What an app shows, and where, is set in the app. What the theme controls and what Shopify controls explains the difference.

App embed turned off

This is the most likely cause, especially after you switch to Checkmate from another theme. App embeds you turned on in your previous theme are off in Checkmate until you turn them on again. You can recognize this cause when the app works through an embed, such as a chat button, and its switch in the editor's app embeds list is off.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store.

  2. Next to Checkmate, click Edit theme.

  3. In the editor sidebar, click App embeds.

  4. Turn on the app's embed.

  5. Click Save.

If the app is not in the list, it has no embed, and it works through an app block or its own settings.

App block not added

You can recognize this cause when the app's help asks you to add a block, and nothing from the app is in the section where it should be. To add a block to the product page:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store.

  2. Next to Checkmate, click Edit theme.

  3. At the top of the editor, select Products, then Default product.

  4. In the Product information section, click Add block.

  5. Under Apps, select the app's block.

Add block list of the Product information section with the Apps tab open and the Sign in with Shop Button app block
  6. Click Save.

Add an app to your store covers other pages.

Section without app blocks

Only these sections take app blocks:

  • Product information and Featured product

  • Section, which you can add to any page, as described in Section section

  • Contact form, Orbit, Subscription and Video

  • Popup and Offcanvas drawer

You can recognize this cause when Add block in a section offers no Apps list. To put an app anywhere else on a page, click Add section, select Section, and add the app's block inside it. The header and the footer accept no app blocks, so an app that belongs there needs its app embed.

Code left in your previous theme

Some apps add their code to the theme's own files, not through an embed or a block. That code stays in the theme the app was installed on, so it is missing in Checkmate. You can recognize this cause when the app works in your previous theme and Checkmate offers neither an embed nor a block for it. Ask the app's developer to set the app up in Checkmate.

Contact support

If the app still doesn't show, contact the app's developer first, because the app controls its own widget. If they point to the theme, write to us through Contact support and include:

  • Your Checkmate version. Find your theme version shows where it is.

  • A preview link to the theme.

  • The app's name, and the URL of the page where it should show.

  • A screenshot of the section where you added the app block.
