Checkmate comes with an faq page template for a page of frequently asked questions. Its FAQ section holds sample questions and a support card under them. The Checkmate and Fang styles start with eight questions written for their demo stores, and the Lair style with five about shipping, returns, payment, order tracking and how to reach you. You create the page in your Shopify admin, give it the faq template, and then write your answers in the editor.
Create the page
In your Shopify admin, add a page under Online Store > Pages, such as "FAQ". In the page's Online store section, select faq under Theme template, then save the page. Shopify's guides to creating pages and applying a template have each step.
The page shows its title as the heading. The page's Content can stay empty.
Write the questions
Each question is a Question block in the FAQ section.
In the FAQ section, select the first Question block.
Enter your Question and Answer.
Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the other questions. To add one, click Add block in the FAQ section and select Question. To remove one, select it and click Remove block.
In the Support card block, select a page under Button link, such as your contact page. On a new install, the button links to the contact page.
Click Save.
A question with no answer shows as a plain line that does not open. A question left empty does not show on your store.
Choose how the questions look
Style in the FAQ section sets how customers read the answers:
Style
What customers see
Accordion
Each question with a plus button before it. Clicking the question opens the answer. The default.
Numbered
Opens like Accordion, with larger questions, a number such as 01 before each one, and the plus button at the end of the line.
List
Every answer open under its question, with no button.
Cards
Each question and its answer on a card, in a grid.
With Accordion or Numbered, turn on Open by default in a Question block to show that answer when the page opens. In the Checkmate and Lair styles, the template shows the first answer open. In the Fang style, every answer starts closed.
Columns splits the questions into 1 to 3 columns, 2 by default. On smaller screens, the columns stack into one.
A Text block adds a paragraph to the section. Placed above the first Question block, it shows before all the questions. Placed anywhere below it, it shows after all of them, so you cannot split the questions into groups with it.
Help search engines read the answers
FAQ structured data is on by default. It adds your questions and answers to the page's code in a format search engines read. Keep it on in only one FAQ section per page. A question without an answer is left out.
The FAQ section describes every setting, including how to give each product its own questions.
