Text block

On this page

The Text block holds a heading, a paragraph, a list or a line of small print. Its Typography setting decides how large the text looks. To add one, click Add block in a Section, Card rail, Contact form, Offcanvas drawer, Orbit, Share, Subscription or Video section, or inside a Group block or Columns block, and select Heading or Text. The Popup section accepts it too. The Footer section comes with its own Text blocks in fixed places. You cannot add a Text block to the footer itself.

Heading and Text are two entries in the Add block list for this one block, so they differ only in the settings they start with. Heading starts with a heading at the Heading 2 size. Text starts with a paragraph at the Medium size.

Content

Text takes paragraphs, bold and italic words, links, lists and headings, which you set with the toolbar above the field. A heading you set there tells search engines and screen readers that the line is a heading. It does not change the size, because Typography sets the size of everything in the block.

At a display or heading size, a line with bold words shows its other words in thinner letters, and the bold words keep the full weight. Use it for a light lead-in followed by a bold phrase.

At a display or heading size, each paragraph you start with Enter sits close under the one above, as the next line of the same heading. At the other sizes, a blank line separates paragraphs.

An empty Text block shows nothing on your store.

Layout

Setting

What it does

Width

How wide the block is. Text column keeps it to a centered column up to 864 px wide. Page width, the default, matches Page width in Layout settings. Full width runs from edge to edge of the section.

Alignment

Puts the text at the left, in the center or at the right of its column. It replaces the alignment the section sets for its blocks.

Inside a Group or Columns block, the text never grows past the space it has there.

Style

Setting

What it does

Typography

The size and the font. The choices are in the table below.

Font family

Shows when Typography is Custom. Body or Display, as chosen in Typography settings.

Font size

Shows when Typography is Custom. A size with its unit, such as 24px or 1.5rem.

Tone

Default shows the text in the text color. Muted shows it in the lighter secondary text color, for a line that sits under a heading.

These are the Typography choices. The display and heading sizes use the display font and the sizes set in Typography settings, and they shrink on smaller screens. They show in capital letters when Uppercase headings is on there.
