A gift card uses a product page like your other products, with extra fields that let the buyer send it to someone else. You create gift card products in the Shopify admin, as Shopify's guide to gift cards describes.
Recipient fields on the product page
On a gift card product, the Buy buttons block shows a checkbox labeled I want to send this as a gift, above the add to cart button. When the buyer checks it, four fields open under it.
Field
What it does
Recipient email
The address the gift card is sent to.
Recipient name (optional)
The name of the person who gets the card.
Message (optional)
A note to the recipient, up to 200 characters.
Send on (optional)
The day the card is sent, from today to 90 days ahead. Left empty, the card is sent the same day.
The fields show on every gift card product with no setting to turn on, and in the quick view popup too.
Use the gift card template
Checkmate comes with a product template named gift-card. It has no product metrics, subscription choices or pickup, and its info card and questions are written for a gift card. To use it, open the gift card product in your Shopify admin, select gift-card under Theme template, and click Save. Use a different layout for some products explains templates.
Show every amount
A gift card's amounts are the values of one option, the way sizes are on other products. The product page shows a choice only for options that a Variant option block names. The default product page and the gift-card template each have a block with denominations in Option name, which shows the amounts as buttons. Without a block for the gift card's option, customers can buy only the first amount on the product page. The quick view popup shows every option, so all amounts show there.
If your gift card's option for its amounts has another name, change the block:
At the top of the editor, select Products, then Default product or gift-card.
In the Product information section, select the Variant option block with denominations in Option name. If there is none, click Add block and select Variant option.
In Option name, enter the name of the gift card's option for its amounts, as it shows on the gift card in your Shopify admin.
When someone opens their gift card online, they see the card on a dark page. The front of the card shows your logo, with the balance under it and the expiry date when the card has one. When the pointer is over the card, or when it is tapped, the card turns over. Its back shows the gift card code with a button that copies it, and a QR code.
Under the card, the page shows:
the expiry date, or This gift card has expired for an expired or disabled card
an Add to Apple Wallet button, when Apple Wallet is available for the card
a Start shopping link to your home page
The logo on the card is the one in the theme's Logo settings. Without one, the card uses the logo in your Shopify admin's brand settings, and without either, it shows your store's name. Shopify's guide to brand assets shows where to add a brand logo. The page has no settings in the editor.
