Collection card settings change every collection card in a Collection list block whose Style is Grid. That includes the grid of all your collections in the Collections grid section. In the editor sidebar, click Theme settings, then select Collection cards.
These settings do not change three other kinds of collection links:
A Collection list block with the Chips style shows each collection as a pill with a small round photo.
A mega menu with the Collection cards menu layout, in the Header section, shows tall photos with the title on the photo.
Popular collections in Cart settings shows plain links in the empty cart drawer.
Each card shows the collection's image. A collection without one shows the image of its first product, and a collection with neither shows only its title. You set a collection's image and description on its page in Products > Collections in your Shopify admin.
With the default settings, each card shows a round photo, with the title, the product count and the start of the description under it.

What it does
Shape
Circle, the default, shows the photo in a circle with the title centered under it. Tile shows the photo in a rectangle with rounded corners and the title aligned left.
Image ratio
Shows when Shape is Tile. Portrait, the default, is 4:5, a little taller than wide. Square is 1:1. Landscape is 16:9, much wider than tall. A circle is always round, whatever this setting says.
Title position
Shows when Shape is Tile. Below puts the title under the photo. On image puts the title, the product count and the description in white along the bottom of the photo, over a dark shade that keeps them readable. A card without a photo keeps its title below.
Show product count
Shows the number of products in the collection, in smaller, lighter text after the title. An empty collection shows no number. On by default.
Show description
Shows the first 15 words of the collection's description under the title. A collection without a description shows nothing there. On by default.
