Show your store in more than one language, so customers can read it in theirs. You add each language in your Shopify admin, translate your content with Shopify's Translate & Adapt app, and then publish the language. Your theme's own text comes already translated into each language the theme ships with, and you change it in the same app as your products.
Add a language
In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Languages.
Click Add language.
In the list that opens, select the language.
Turn on each domain where the language should be available.
Click Done.
Shopify installs the Translate & Adapt app when you add a language. Customers don't see the language until you publish it. Shopify's guide to managing languages covers domains and markets.
Translate your content
In your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Translate & Adapt.
Select the language you want to translate.
Select the kind of content you want to translate, such as products or your theme.
Your products, collections and pages are only part of what customers read. Translate these too:
Content
What it holds
Theme content
Fixed text such as Add to cart, Sold out, cart notes and error messages. It is the same text that Change the wording on your store covers. In a language your theme ships with, it is already translated, so change only the words you want different.
Sections and blocks
Text that you typed in the theme editor: headings, paragraphs, button labels, and announcement bar messages.
Theme settings
Text in your theme settings, such as a label or a message that shows on every page.
Menus
The title of each link in your header and footer menus.
Policies and blog posts
Each one is translated on its own, the same way as products.
Checkout comes translated into 33 languages. Some content can't be translated, such as product tags, product images and forms made with the Shopify Forms app. Shopify's requirements for Translate & Adapt has the full list.
Some themes match a menu item to a theme setting by the item's title, such as a mega menu that opens under a link with a given title. When you translate that menu title, translate the matching setting to the same words, or the item stops matching in the new language. Add a mega menu shows the setting for themes that have it.
Publish the language
In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Languages.
Next to the language, click the three-dot icon.
Select Publish.
Customers pick a language with your theme's language selector. Check in the theme editor that the selector is turned on in the section that holds it, such as the footer.
Keep translations up to date
Customers who read another language see its translation, not your default text. After you change text in your default language, open Translate & Adapt and update the translation too.
